Hi, I’m Janiré Castillo, the founder and principal interior stylist at Halcyon Interior Styling. My love for interior design isn’t just a career choice—it’s a passion woven into the fabric of my life. From childhood, I’ve been captivated by the power of spaces to evoke emotion and create beauty.
As a little girl, I spent hours poring over home decor magazines, carefully cutting out pictures of furniture and decor items that sparked my imagination. Those magazine clippings became my first “mood boards,” laying the foundation for what would eventually become my career in interior styling.
A Design Perspective Shaped by Contrast
Growing up, I experienced two very different approaches to design and living, which shaped my philosophy of balance.
- Eclectic Creativity: Inspired by a parent who was a crafting enthusiast and an avid collector, our home was filled with handmade items and mementos. From them, I learned that creativity has no limits, that imperfections add charm, and that objects can tell the most beautiful stories.
- Minimalist Elegance: On the other hand, my other parent was a minimalist, dedicated to clean lines and the idea that “less is more.” From them, I learned the beauty of simplicity and the serenity that comes from a well-organized, uncluttered environment.
This upbringing taught me the importance of balance in design. For me, a well-styled space isn’t about choosing between maximalism or minimalism—it’s about blending both, seamlessly reflecting who you are and making you feel at home.
The Birth of Halcyon Interior Styling
My passion for design only intensified as I grew older. Though I don’t have a formal design education, my hands-on experience, constant learning, and instinct for creating beautiful spaces led me to start Halcyon Interior Styling.
The name “Halcyon” speaks to my design philosophy—creating peaceful, serene, and prosperous spaces that nurture the soul and elevate everyday living. I believe that your home should feel like a sanctuary, where each element is chosen with intention and reflects your unique story.
